This present painting is registered in the Fototeca Zeri under no. 40506 (as Francesco Bassano).
The present composition is based on a prototype by Jacopo Bassano (circa 1510–1592) dating to the 1680s, of which various versions survived, including those in the National Gallery, London (inv. no. NG228) and in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no. P000028), while another version attributed to Leandro is conserved in the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no. P 18).
