Turkey, c. 185 x 135 cm, 20th century. An old pure silk carpet from the town of Hereke, 60 kilometers east of Istanbul, in the tradition of early ‘Kum Kapu’ prayer rugs with inscribed cartouches. This masterpiece, which is particularly large for this type, is brilliantly executed in terms of colour, with c. 640,000 knots/sqm, and captivates its viewers through its cloth-like feel and good condition.
