so-called secrétaire à abattant, France, c. 1810/15, mahogany veneered hardwood frame with 3/4 columns - the latter with acanthus leaf capitals and small circular bronze doré rosettes, cornice drawer with geometrical bronze and palmette decor, writing surface with bronze fittings in the shape of a laurel wreath and lyre decor, satinwood veneered interior with 4 inner drawers with bronze applications and mahogany veneered facing side, gold-embossed green leather writing insert, lower section with two doors and bronze vase applications, one inside drawer, marble top, c. 142 x 103 x 50 veneer parts supplemented during the course of a former restoration, signs of age and use. Excellent work in terms of both furniture construction and bronzes. This piece of writing furniture is reminiscent of works by the imperial court cabinet-maker Bernard Molitor (1755-1833), who, amongst others, supplied Napoleon I with his works of art.
