The letter is addressed to Edita Gruberová, concerning the joint recording of Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail [Abduction from the Seraglio] with the Vienna Philharmonic (DECCA, 1987): "Meine liebe Edita, I have recently finished listening to the final edited version of our "Entführung" and I would like to send you these few lines, to thank you for the wonderful contribution you have made. I firmly believe it will be many years before any singer can come even close to the artistry and musicianship which you have brought to the role of Constanze and I regard it as the greatest privilege and joy to have had the opportunity to make this recording with you".
