Gerus, Iran, c. 401 x 298 cm,
Iran, c. 401 x 298 cm, 19th century. The arabesque drawing, typical of Gerus carpets from this period, stands out from the indigo ground. This archaic specimen was manufactured in a small rural factory in the Kurdish West Persian region of Gerus. The patterns were already deeply rooted in the region at that time through stories, drawings and vagirehs. With partly trimmed pile and re-worked edges, in good condition. (VP)
