Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner - Orologi da polso e da tasca

very rare diving wristwatch, reference 5512, c. 1959

Case: stainless steel, numbered 478188, turning bezel, screw crown with “pointed guard” crown protector, interior stamped “III 59”, diameter c. 40 mm
Movement: self-winding, lever movement, calibre 1530, 25 jewels
Dial: black, luminous dot and baton numerals, central second
Accessories: folding fastening stainless steel

When it was unveiled in 1953, the Rolex Submariner was the first mass-produced diver's watch. Production of the reference 5512 began in 1959. One of its most striking innovations was the crown protector. This had a rectangular shape, also known as "square crown guards". These were replaced after a short time, for reasons of better operability, by the so-called "pointed crown guards". The first watches of this series featured a two-line dial. This includes the possible diving depth in meters and feet, as well as the model name Submariner. The two-tone inscription and the red triangle on the bezel are also elements indicating an early production date. The watch shows signs of age and use. The dial and the bezel are stained. The watch band has been replaced.
