The Danish landscape painter Frederik Christian Kiaerskou received his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Art under Jens Peter Møller. In 1840/42, Kiaerskou undertook a study trip to Munich and in 1845 became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. In 1863, he created a view of Bernstorff Castle as a bridal gift for Princess Alexandra of Denmark and the English Prince Edward (later King Edward VII). In 1867, he became a court painter at the royal residence in Charlottenborg Palace.
