Ludwig Hans Fischer

Ludwig Hans Fischer - Acquerelli e miniature

(Salzburg 1848-1915 Vienna)
Lush vegetation in Darjeeling, Himalaya mountain in the background, titled "Darjeeling", signed Ludwig Hans Fischer, watercolour on paper, 46 x 33,5 cm, mounted, framed, (BH)

Ludwig Hans Fischer enjoyed travelling all his life. Immediately after having finished his artistic formation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Louis Jacoby, William Unger and Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels around 1875 he travelled to Tunesia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine and Asia Minor. After that he spent two years in Rome (1875-77) followed by a journey to Norway. In 1878/79 he travelled again to Tunis, Palestine and Egypt and also through several other countries at the Mediterranean Sea. Back in Vienna he settled in his house with its adjacent studio in Neuwaldegg. He exhibited frequently in Vienna and in 1889/90 he joined the Viennese art patron Karl Count of Lanckoronski whose artistic companion he was on a trip to Eastern Asia. Thus, he got to know the coast and the heartland of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and when he travelled from Bombay to Lahore he depicted his impressions of India in many drawings and watercolours. After having travelled extensively in the Far East he presented his pictures in an exhibition organized by the Museum of Art and Industry. His pictures stand out for their realistic depictions which betray a close observation of nature; they also became popular for their light colours and a staffage with small figures.
