(Vienna 1884–1951 Bramberg, Pinzgau)

Provenance:
Private Collection, Vienna

Compare:
Jakob Wirz, Josef Stoitzner, Bad Vöslau 2019, cat. rais. no. 1.3.16.

We are grateful to Dr. Jakob Wirz and Christian Nindl for confirming the authenticity and for the help in cataloguing this work. The painting will be included in the supplement of the catalogue raisonné with the no. 1.3.80.

Since the first family summer stays in 1902, Josef Stoitzner was closely connected to Bramberg, a picturesque village in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg. In 1909 he married Anna Millinger, the daughter of the local doctor. Josef Stoitzner always found numerous motifs in Bramberg, not only in the varied landscape, but also in the farmhouses and barns, and created a lasting monument to this bygone world of everyday rural life.
In the catalog raisonné of 1917/1918, two interiors of farmhouse rooms are listed, no. 1.3.16 is now in the Salzburg Museum. In this, as in the present, newly discovered painting, the artist was fascinated by the sunlight, which gives the drawn curtains an exciting color and illuminates the interior warmly and vividly with iridescent color tones.
