Egon Schiele

Egon Schiele - Grafica moderna e contemporanea

(Tulln 1890-1918 Vienna)
"Mädchen", 1918, lithograph on wove paper (lithographic rag paper), from the edition of 125 impressions of the complete edition, image size 21.3 x 37.2 cm, sheet size 39.6 x 53 cm, 1919 printed by Albert Berger/Vienna and published by Avalun Verlag/Vienna, Kallir 17 b, (RAC)

A superb, vivid and transparent print at once. Egon Schiele’s last original graphic work. The lithograph was originally created for the annual portfolio of the Gesellschaft für vervielfältigende Kunst/Vienna, which rejected it. Therefore, only a few trial proofs were made during Schiele’s lifetime, and the lithograph stone was stored in the Albert Berger printing house. Only a small part of the edition printed in 1919 on behalf of Arthur Roessler for Avalun Verlag was sold. When sold, each copy was numbered and stamped on the front with the stamped signature. 80 unsold copies were included in the portfolio 'Das Graphische Werk von Egon Schiele' in 1922. These copies were mostly stamped on the reverse. Other unsold copies remained unstamped and unnumbered.
