An exceptionally large Mano mask,
Liberia. Wood, fiber, ritual pouches, 43 cm high. This is probably the largest Dan mask known in the world, and like the neighboring Toma, these sacred masks of the magic world are only seen by initiates. This large mask controls the passport masks, personal miniature masks (Ma Go) that function as amulets among the Dan and neighboring cultures, linking the owner with a particular spirit force that helps and protects.
