One of the very first images of an orbital sunrise captured from lunar orbit, this photograph of great rarity was not released after the mission.
Looking backward (eastward) during orbit 26 toward the 49-km Crater Rhaeticus (right foreground) and Central Bay (left foreground) near the location of landing site 3 (out of view in darkness at the right bottom of picture), the crew shot this stunning photograph of the Sun rising over the center of the lunar nearside through the 80mm lens. The 34-km crater Godin is visible in the left background. Latitude / longitude: 1.6° N / 6.2° E.
