South German private ownership

Literature:
Cat. exp.: Frühes Meissner Porzellan. Kostbarkeiten aus deutschen Privatsammlungen, Hentjens-Museum / Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden Porzellansammlung, Munich 1999, cat. 58.

The fragile design of the braided lattice-like shape of this vase brings to mind the constant efforts of the Meissen manufactory to improve its ability to model porcelain. The challenge of producing openwork vessels was discontinued during Böttger's time, due to the fire cracks that occurred too frequently. In line with Johann Joachim Kaendler's statement that everything that had been achieved in other materials could also be achieved in porcelain, the technical challenge of large open-worked vessels was once again taken up. Thus, the main focus of this vase is neither the staffage, the luster nor the gold luster of the porcelain is important, but its graceful and at the same time fragile form design.
