”An artist only speaks of the things he knows, the things he understands, the things with which he has experienced a profound communion all his life, since before he was even conscious. My connection with Sicily is so deep that it comes out. Pirandello recounted gossip from the pharmacy in Porto Empedocle and it was understood in Alaska and Japan. When you say something true, something deep, it always becomes universal. Part of the human heart is universal.“
