An Ensemble of 6 Historicist Chairs from the Palais Erzherzog Wilhelm,


so-called Deutschmeister-Palais, designed by Theophil von Hansen in around 1870, conical fluted and red-brown stained and turned hardwood frames with all-round stretchers, gold painted, backrests and frames with the same turned disc decoration, side rails with pine cone finials, partly with floral embossed leather backrest covers, the seats covered with brown fabric, backrest height c. 104/105 cm, seat height c. 47/49 cm, supplemented covering, signs of age and use. Provenance:
originally Palais Erzherzog Wilhelm, Grand Master of the Teutonic Order (built by Theophil von Hansen 1864-1867) in Vienna I, Parkring 8.

A chair in its original condition, which is preserved in the collection of the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) (Inv. No. H: 2066a/1964), was originally part of the furnishings of the large dining room in the palace. This room was primarily used for gatherings of members of religious orders.
