Provenance: Private collection, Italy.
The present drawing may have been preliminary for an engraving; the red chalk layer on the reverse of the sheet may point to the sheet’s intended transfer to another medium. According to Prof. Elena Tamburini the drawing is stylisticaly close to drawings by the Bibiena famiy and may have been executed by a workshop member. An attribution to the Italian architect and stage designer Pietro Righini (Parma 1683-1742), who accompanied Ferdinando Bibiena during his sojourn in Barcelona, was also suggested.
