A unique high-back chair mod. “Cats 2017”, designed and manufactured by Johann Rumpf - Design

in 2017, four-legged modified structure made of polychrome varnished wood, with acrylic paint and lightfast furniture varnishes. Height c. 121 cm, width c. 66 cm, depth c. 46 cm. Slight signs of age and use. (MHA)

This armchair was originally used as a prop on the stage of the Burgtheater in the play “The Broken Jug” by Heinrich von Kleist in 1990. The actor Wolfgang Gasser sat on it at the time.

Johann Rumpf was born in Vienna on 7 April 1950. 1970 – 1974: worked for the enamel jewellery company Michaela Frey in Vienna; 1973 - 1974: children’ art supervisor at the “Wiener Ferienspiel” and organiser of painting courses in Vienna; 1976: licence for artistic screen printing; 1976: member of the Professional Association of Austrian Fine Artists; foundation of the artisan company Johann Rumpf with a focus on glass painting; 1977 - 1992: Various exhibitions in Austria and abroad (Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Frankfurt, New York, etc.); 1992 - 1993: construction of the Kunsthaus Rumpf; 1994 - 2020: various exhibitions and art auctions. Johann Rumpf lives and works in Vienna.
