MAK

The Dorotheum is a sponsoring partner of the MAK.

The Museum für angewandte Kunst (Museum for Applied Arts) offers an exceptional combination of applied art, design, architecture and contemporary art. The origin of the museum dates back to 1863, when it was founded by Vienna’s first art professor, Rudolf von Eitelberg. Today, the MAK hosts a wide collection of exhibitions from different artistic eras that cover a variety of topics ranging from environmental protection to fashion and Kineticism.

This year, Dorotheum is sponsoring the “Iconic Auböck” exhibition. The exhibition presents the iconic and still handcrafted classic designs of the Werkstätte Carl Auböck Vienna. The latter is considered one of the most important designers of his time and has shaped Austrian design for generations. The exhibition at the MAK focuses on the era-defining style of the interwar and post-war periods up to the experimental 1980s and presents, for the first time, the work of the sculptor and textile artist Mara Uckunowa (1895-1987), who met her husband-to-be, Carl Auböck (1900-1957), at the Bauhaus in Weimar. The exhibition runs from 15 May to 13 October 2024.
