The right part of the present painting is based on a composition by Peter Paul Rubens (dated circa 1635), which is in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh. Isaacsz.’s workshop added on the left side a group of soldiers, amongst them a man in armour, possibly a portrait of either Prince William II of Orange (1626–1650) or Landgrave Moritz of Hesse (1572–1632). A comparable banquet scene by Isaac Isaacsz. is in Kronborg Castle, Denmark (where he was court painter to the King of Denmark).
