Stefan Borisov Mitov was a lawyer. In the 1920s and 1930s, he was well known in Bulgaria as an art critic. He published in the Bulgarian Periodical Press on a regular basis. Mitov was a nephew of the famous Bulgarian artist Anton Mitov. He counted many famous Bulgarian artists among his friends. Mitov‘s first wife Nadia was Boris Georgieff‘s sister. The lawyer and art critic is depicted wearing the uniform of the „tirailleurs sénégalais“. These soldiers of the French colonial troops were also deployed in the Balkans (1915-1918) during World War I.
