Count Pyotr Alexandrovich Rumyantsev-Sadunaysky (1725 - 1796) became commander-in-chief of the Russian army during the Russo-Ottoman War in 1770. He was victorious in the great Battle of Larga and the Battle of Cahul and concluded the Peace of Küçük Kaynarca on 21 July 1774. Empress Catherine II then appointed him Field Marshal. The order of this service in Meissen is connected with the appointment of Count Rumyantsev-Sardunajski (1725-1796) as Field Marshal of the Russian Empire. After military successes in the Russo-Ottoman Wars, Empress Catherine II appointed him Field Marshal General in 1770 and, as an addition to his title and land, this dinner service was ordered in Meissen in 1774.
