An objet trouvé (light object) “Party Is Over In Europe!”, Udo Breitenbach

2018, objet trouvé of object artist Udo Breitenbach. Fragment of a 1960s caravan with party lighting. Diverse materials. Without guarantee for electrical fitting. Length c. 190 cm. Signs of age and use. (MHA)

The Aschaffenburg-based object artist Udo Breitenbach works with unusual found objects and uses them in a new context. ‘Speaking objects’ from which he reads history and stories, and which he interprets. The results are Dadaesque collages, assemblages or ready-mades. Dadaists opposed the madness of the First World War with ‘the absurd’ - ANTI ART as a creative act of despair. Udo Breitenbach sees himself as a post-Dadaist, who resorts to the language of Dadaism, whilst also dealing with the issues of our time. The present object deals with the pandemic and its effects in a post-Dadaist manner. In view of the traumas and abysses of the present time, Breitenbach comments on topics such as Corona, populism, Europe or world politics. His works often bear ironic or sarcastic titles.
