The present painting relates to a joint work of Jan Brueghel II and Hendrick van Balen I which is dated to around 1626 and was sold at Sotheby’s on 10 July 2014 as lot 133. The Sotheby’s work is published in Klaus Ertz’s catalogue raisonné on Brueghel II (see, K. Ertz, Jan Brueghel der Jüngere, Freren 1984, pp. 310, 311, no. 141).
Another work which bears similarities to the present painting is considered a workshop version and is conserved in the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe (inv. no. 846).
